Little Green Fingers

Encouraging a love of nature
……………………………………………………………………………………………………
Age group: All ages

Little Green Fingers is done in small groups and is packed full of hands-on, active gardening activity designed to give children an introduction to nature and the process of growing their own food.

In our edible garden there are raised beds that the children help to plan and create, picking which plants they would like to grow, sowing the seeds, taking care of the plants, through to eventually harvesting the vegetables for nursery mealtimes.

This is packed full of learning opportunities; for example – what are fruits/vegetables and herbs? What are the differences between them? What birds, animals and insects live in the garden? How do different seasons affect the garden? It extends on to introduce bigger concepts of the natural world such as wildlife, recycling and the eco-system. Activities include; identifying plants, designing a garden, sowing seeds, watering plants, making a bird feeder and the super popular ‘Mini-beasties Hunt’ (insects!).
